Hi AFM readers! I am Coach Kati Epps, and I am the founder of MyBody GX. Health, nutrition, and fitness have been a draw for me since I was a young girl; I always wanted to be stronger and faster. Through trial and error, I realized as a young athlete that what I ate had a huge impact on my performance. Later, I started noticing that, how and when I trained, produced different results. In college, I studied chemistry and began my fascination into the world of supplements and molecular level absorption and manipulation. This was the beginning of the realization that my body liked to eat and train a certain way, and that way was not the same as many recommendations I had read about in training articles and fad diets.
“Diet” dates to the Greek and Roman times, when physicians realized that a diet was a whole-body encompassing lifestyle that included mental and spiritual wellness along with the physical side. It was in the 19th century that fad diets started to become fashionable as merchants would advertise their products to be the best way to live and eat. In the many years following, “low-carb” diets and “calorie restricting” diets were written to help overcome disease states that came with overeating and inactivity. Since then, countless diets have been created, including the Grapefruit Diet, the Cabbage Soup Diet, Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach, Slim Fast, Paleo, Keto, Whole30 — the list goes on and on.
My coaching career began 12 years ago. I realized, as individuals were on weight loss journeys, preparing for weddings, training for fitness competitions, and needing lifestyle changes, that there was one thing they all had in common: They are all completely different! Needs were different; food was different. Timing, training, lifestyle, RESULTS — all different. I also noticed almost all had tried at least two or more fad diets before looking for a custom nutrition and fitness plan; there had to be a better way to find out what each person needed — ideally without all the trial and error.
In 2017, I started looking into DNA-based programming. Could I write a plan that was 100% custom written for an individual’s genetics? Would this get results faster? Would the results be sustainable over time?
YES!!
In 2018, MyBody GX was created to do just that. In a world of fad diets, crazy exercise programs and unsustainable lifestyles, the answer to “How do I feed and move my body to be lean and healthy?” comes from our very own genetics. Answers to “Should I eat more protein?” or “Should I eat less fat?” could be answered based on how an individual’s genetic single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) performed.
MyBody GX’s mission is to meet individuals where they are in their health journey and help them get to where they want to be. Individuals’ goals could be weight loss, healthy aging, athletic performance, or a better understanding of their nutritional needs. By using DNA testing, the guess work is now removed, and a custom plan can be created. The need for a fad diet no longer exists as the individual knows exactly what is best for their body.
My Body GX will teach what an individual’s genotypes suggest about their tendency to lose weight and body fat in response to different types of diets and exercise programs. They will also gain insights into their absorption tendency for a variety of micronutrients, as well as the likely health effects they may experience from regular exercise. The analyzed genotype results are followed by a detailed explanation and success strategy.
Weight loss, transformation changes and creating a healthy long-term relationship with food and movement is one of the greatest challenges faced by coaches, nutritionists, and health care providers. One problem that comes up over and over is the obsession with fad diets. All diets work, but not all diets work for everyone and not all diets are sustainable. MyBody GX uses DNA allowing the body to provide the instructions on what to eat and how much without the guesswork or unsustainable fad plans.
