“Healthiest” Candies

By Sarah – October 4, 2011

It may sound like the Oxymoron of the century: healthy candy. No it’s not a joke, or a mythical story in which we all wish we could believe, it actually EXISTS! So before you go reaching into your child’s Halloween stash, check out some of the candies that eat away at your waistline, not your teeth!

1) CocoaVia by Mars

This chocolate bar boasts a mere 100 calories and is actually GOOD for your heart. Some of the additives in this “hearty” treat include calcium, folic acid and vitamins B-6, B-12, C and E.

2) Figamajigs

Chocolate made from figs? As unusual as it may sound, that’s just what a Figamajig bar is. These fit figs are high in fiber, minerals and nutrients and low in fat. Still in doubt? Try them yourself!

3) Fine & Dandy Candy: Sparx with xylitol by Xlear

These fruity, bite-sized candies contain xylitol, a carb that looks and tastes like sugar, but isn’t nearly as bad for you! Studies have even shown that xylitol stops and perhaps even reverses tooth decay after long-term use, how’s that for healthy candy?

4) Hershey’s Sugar-Free Snacks

Hershey’s – Now there’s a name we all know and love. Hershey’s has jumped on the low-sugar band wagon and now offers a variety of their classic candies in a sugar-free version. From Twizzlers to Reece’s, our favorite selections are now available a la “no sugar.”

5) Too Tarts by Innovative Candy Concepts, Inc.

Why is it that kids always seem to go for the candy that has the most sugar, goo, sourness and sticky-factor (Sour Patch Kids anyone?) Well Too Tarts has really done it this time, dubbing kids into thinking their sugary snack falls into this category, ha! Too Tarts contain no refined sugar but instead are made with pure fruit juice concentrate.

So there it is, proof that “healthy” candy actually does exist. As Halloween quickly approaches, consider handing out something a little more beneficial to our little trick-or-treaters – a healthy candy a day keeps the doctor (and diabetes) away!
