Lady Bird Lake Boathouse: Bulldozed

By Kelsey – June 1, 2011

Frequenters of the trail around Lady Bird Lake will notice changes near the Four Seasons Hotel this weekend.

The limestone buildings just east of the hotel, built in 1987 and home to the Austin Rowing Club, were demolished recently as a result of the Waller Creek Projects. A new multi-purpose structure will be erected on the site beginning later this year.

“While the building is not, strictly speaking, historic,” says Camille Jobe, President of Austin Rowing Club and an architect, “it does hold a quarter-century’s worth of memories for the 10,000 people who learned to row here and for our members.”

The City describes the proposed new structure as a multi-purpose center for healthy, environmentally sensitive trail and lake activities with broad appeal to the community.
