Celebrating Art & Community
OCTOBER 18 – 21, 2013 Apache Pass–Rockdale, TX
WHAT:
Art Outside is a three-day annual art festival in its 9th year, produced by Austin’s own independent production company, Art Seen Alliance. The event takes place October 18th through 21st on Apache Pass in Rockdale, Texas. Tickets, schedules, and information can be found at www.artoutside.org and facebook.com/artoutside. This year’s festival’s Open Call for Artists ends August 31st, 2013.
The objective of Art Outside is for participants to celebrate art and creativity, with a shared sense of community, in a family-friendly environment. Art Outside provides patrons with the unique opportunity to coexist with approachable artists in a natural outdoor playground curated with original art. Children’s activities round out the programming, making it a wonderful experience for the whole family. The collaborative culture of Art Outside emphasizes a tangible approach to interactive art, education, and sustainable practices.
WHERE:
Apache Pass is a privately owned historic site situated along the San Gabriel river in Milam County. Located at 9112 N. FM 908 in the community of Downtown, Texas (neighboring the cities of Rockdale and Thorndale), Apache pass is approximately sixty miles northeast of downtown Austin.
EXPERIENCE:
The festival features a wide range of entertainment for all ages, spotlighting original music and performance on three round-the-clock stages. Daytime activities include browsing beautiful and obscure handmade goods, savoring eats from one-of-a-kind vendors, trying new skills in diverse workshops, exploring two-dimensional art galleries, and wandering amongst awe-inspiring sculpture installations. The nightlife glows brightly in a rainbow of neon LED lights, fire art and performance while DJ’s keep festival-goers dancing until dawn. http://www.artoutside.org/updates/
CAMPING:
The rural landscape of Apache Pass is temporarily transformed into a magical city for one weekend each October. Rolling pastures provide shade under majestic oak trees and mountainous tents by day. Camping provides patrons with the enchanting experience of sleeping under an unspoiled starry sky by night.
Art Outside festival-goers are encouraged to camp on location to fully embrace the weekend’s activities. Self-expression is encouraged, especially in campsites, to contribute to the overall atmosphere and add to the communal vibe. Campers enjoy convenient amenities such as food vendors, porta-potties (maintained twice daily), on-site medics, available RV slots with hookups, and a designated family camping area.
LEAVE NO TRACE:
Art Outside is a “Leave No Trace” event; what you bring in, you bring out. If you see MOOP (Matter Out of Place), pick it up! Keep the pastures green, take responsibility, and lend a helping hand to the green culture of the festival. Thank YOU!!!
SUSTAINABILITY:
Environmental sustainability is vitally important to the Art Outside community. Art Outside is on the forefront of sustainable festivals by utilizing solar power and biodiesel generators, providing unbottled filtered water, waste recycling and composting, and integrating programs which emphasize green education. By embracing ecologically friendly practices, Art Outside strives to inspire patrons to return to their communities with a working knowledge of green methods.
OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS:
Artists are encouraged to submit applications before August 31st, 2013. Art Outside provides a tremendous opportunity for undiscovered artists to engage an appreciative audience. Complete the submission form at: http://www.artoutside.org/applications/.
