The holidays are one of the best times to have delicious desserts. But for those who are determined to follow through with their diets, those who have dietary restrictions, or even just the everyday dessert lover on the search for something new and delicious, finding a dessert that fits your current needs can be a big challenge.
Luckily, there are delicious recipes available, as well as some great local businesses, that can help satisfy both the cooks and the consumers!
First off, for those who love cooking, there are some fabulous recipes online that your inner baker can adore. This also has the added benefit of allowing you to be more creative in what the finished product looks and tastes like!
Just searching “low-carb dessert” online can give you thousands of options, but a good one to try is Allreceipes, which has been in business since 1997. From cookies to cheesecake to an easy strawberry ice cream recipe, their list of low-carb desserts is one to peruse and drool over.
But regardless of whether you are a first-time cook or a long-seasoned veteran, plenty of low-carb desserts are available for this upcoming holiday season. Another good place to check could be the family recipe books; perhaps a distant relative makes a delicious chocolate pie that can easily be substituted to fulfill your low-carb dreams.
But even if you are not a cook and the only time you set foot in the kitchen is to reheat something, these local businesses have you covered!
Susan Corsover had her first open-heart surgery at 31 and was determined to make a change in her life. This change occurred with D’Lites, an Austin-based ice cream and grocery store based initially in Florida until about ten years ago when the company expanded into Austin.
Gavin Corsover, son of the current owners, occasionally works at the store and has seen it grow and move. “The inspiration was my mom,” says Corsover. “(The store) has changed our lives in many ways.”
More than ice cream, D’Lites also contains a grocery store with low-carb items, making it an even better stop for all low-carb lovers. Some highlights include staple items such as bread, pasta, and pizza!
Zucchini Kill is an excellent choice for those interested in something more rock.
