If you need a little inspiration to get you through your workout today, or even just to get your shoes on and headed to the gym, look to Hawaii, where part-time resident Gladys Burrill is breaking fitness records. The 92-year-old ran her first marathon in 2004 at the age of 86, and she recently set a record for being the oldest person ever to finish a marathon.
The woman nicknamed “Gladyator” power-walked and jogged her way through the Honolulu marathon, finishing in nine hours and 53 minutes.
So what’s her secret?
“It’s so important to think positive. It’s easy to get discouraged and be negative. It makes such a difference in how you feel and your outlook on everything.”
She’s been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records, the World Records Academy and by USA Track and Field. She recommends the others wanting to live a long, healthy life “get out there and walk or run.”
