A new report published in Clinical Infectious Diseases tested beef, pork, chicken and turkey from five US cities and found drug-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus in almost half of the products.
It’s true that cooking meat will kill the staph bacteria, but one contaminated knife, cutting board or kitchen counter is all it takes to let the bacteria loose in your kitchen. With the effects of staph ranging from a minor rash to life-threatening infections, maybe it’s time to reconsider that T-bone.
