The health track takes place today, Sunday the 13th, and will include discussion on health apps and new technologies, social media and health care and the relation between video games and mental health.
And local fitness companies are taking advantage of SXSWi’s health discussions. Bikehugger, Endurance and MapMyFITNESS will display their products on the showroom floor. MapMyFITNESS has taken it a step further, organizing runs, walks and bike rides for “festival goers who are yearning for some healthy activity to balance out all those cigarettes and Lone Stars,” says the Austin Post.
There needs to be a discussion on the role of social media in health care. Should doctors be on Facebook? How do our social networks influence our health? There’s no better place for these big questions than SXSW.
